Uluwatu – Pura Luhur Temple

Pura Luhur Temple.

The Pura Luhur Temple is dedicated to the sea gods, and is one of the most important temples of Bali. Very important in the heart of Balinese people, it’s also very famous among the tourists (expect a lot of visitors, especially at sunset – I’ll talk about it a bit further).

Famous for its magical location at the top of a cliff, but also for its stealing-monkeys !

Don’t trust his cute eyes, he’ll try to rob you !

There are signs all over the park : keep your belongings inside your bags (and it’s especially true for your sunglasses, don’t keep them on, the monkeys WILL steal them !) Of course, if it happens, one of the park employees will try to help you get your things back, but most of the time to no avail… You’ve been warned 🙂 Also, be careful to their huuuuge teeth, but I’ll talk about that in another article.

When you enter the temple, after paying the entrance fee (20.000 IDR ~1,30€ ~1,60$), you will receive a sarong (a colorful piece of cloth to wear around your waist to cover your legs). Both men and women need it to enter the temple.

(Tip : you do not need to buy a sarong, as most temple will lend you one – but it’s a nice gift to bring home from Bali :))

I recommend you visit the temple at the end of the day to enjoy the beautiful views when the sun sets into the sea… it’s indescribable ! (the temple closes at 7:00 PM, but the sun sets early in Bali).

Want more beaches ? It’s this way 🙂
